Wait on gods timing8/10/2023 ![]() Why has Jesus not yet come back? Peter says it is because God “is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Pet 3:9). ![]() All we can say is the Lord says no one can know the day or hour of His second coming, but we know for a fact that He is coming (Rev 1:7). Many who say they used to believe in God and others who are openly hostile to God, and thus, to hostile to Christians “will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation” (2 Pet 3:4). One example is about the second coming of Jesus Christ. In other words, God’s time or His timing may not match what we think our timing should be. The Apostle Peter wants us to understand that God is not limited by time and space, and that thousands of years to us are but a day to Him. Our Frame and God’s Time Frame – 2 Peter 3:9 We need to recognize and show wisdom in knowing when and how to act or not to act in certain situations because “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven”(Eccl 3:1). There’s even a right time for war and for peace (Eccl 3:8), but again, God’s timing is always best. At times we know it’s best to keep silent and at other times, to speak up (Eccl 3:7). For example, at a funeral, it’s a time to cry, not laugh (Eccl 3:4). There are proper times for everything and for every occasion. In the end, it is God’s timing that matters. Solomon explains that whatever happens in our life ultimately has a purpose, including the time when things happen. A Time for Everything and Purpose – Ecclesiastes 3:1 And that means our trust is in the right place or rather, the right Person. When we rest in Him, we show we have trust in Him. We can grow weary and might even faint during circumstances and having to wait, but waiting on God is a form of rest. Isaiah the Prophet says that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). ![]() I assume for those who don’t wait upon the Lord, their strength is zapped. Isaiah the Prophet tells us that it is those who wait upon the Lord who will have their strength renewed. ![]() Will you be patient and wait on God, or be impatient and act on your own will? Renewing Your Strength by Waiting – Isaiah 40:31 He writes during this time of great difficulty and uncertainty to “Wait for the Lord be strong, and let your heart take courage wait for the Lord”(Psalm 27:14)! So easy to say…so very hard to do, but David’s example of waiting on God’s timing is an excellent lesson for us to try and not take matters into our own hands and try to force God’s hand. He had two chances to kill King Saul, but knew it was not God’s will. How David handled this for more than two decades shows his great patience and trust in God’s timing, not his. In fact, David waited over 20 years of his life to be made king. To start with, David had to wait a long, long time for Saul to exit the throne of Israel before he could reign as King. I think most people are not as patient as they should be, and that includes me, but is the first of 5 Bible verses that will help us understand God’s timing. Waiting on God’s Timing has its Rewards – Psalm 27:14 Ithink most people are not as patient as they should be, and that includes me, but here are 5 Bible verses that will help us understand God’s timing.
